Life is full of change. “Change” is the only real constant we face. As our business has grown, employees have come and gone. As a business owner, I’m concerned about the bottom line but I’m more concerned about the individual. Daily, I repeat my priorities to myself:
1) God
2) family
3) country
4) each individual
Notice how “I” am not on my list? Truth is a battle every day but one I have come to embrace. I know the only way to joy is “leading by serving”. It works 100 percent of the time when tried. I practice this with each person I am blessed to come across. Each person is deserving of me keeping my priorities in order. Does this mean I don’t fire people? No, it doesn’t. It means that if an individual is not performing; we let the employee know what is expected. After that, we work with the individual to meet the standard. Sometimes that’s been training. Sometimes it’s been working with physical limitations. Other times, it’s working to change attitudes.
We tirelessly commit to truth. There are no prima donnas at work. In the end, it’s more about my priorities, combined with an attitude vacant of pride and revenge. If I follow this path, it ALWAYS works out for the best. No, life isn’t easy but we have a road map in the example in Jesus. You get to choose your path. There is no one telling you what you have to do. I’m presenting you with evidence from one who has made so many mistakes. Following this path has been the best thing I’ve ever experienced.
