My first employee was our accountant. Cathy was so instrumental in the success we have enjoyed over the past 11 years. Today was her birthday, and in honor of this dear friend and trusted company sidekick, God put the following on my heart to say and share. Thank you for honoring her by reading the story that has been the most incredible journey. We do not take our blessings for granted.
I think about all the years we have struggled together for the company that we built together. Yes, we have added very talented and high-character people, but none of that would have happened if it wasn’t for you protecting the finances and me through it all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Today we have other obstacles, from keeping a growing company safe from all the financial pitfalls that are all around us, to physical issues that have really challenged you. I hope you know I have tried my best to be your friend and support you through all you have had to bear.
The thing that has absolutely amazed me through this entire challenge has been your unstoppable drive to move forward. There is no victim mentality that resides in you, only the insatiable will to do everything you can do to affect your challenges positively. Yes, you’ve been in the wilderness. Yes, you haven’t always known exactly what the next step is. However, you have never stopped asking the question: What is my part in this?
I will say this illness has molded your character. You no longer worry about everything, never too stuck in your head, and have learned to love yourself as you are—and most of all, just breathe and be. You laugh more and don’t take yourself so seriously. None of us know what tomorrow will bring, but you have learned a secret I wish more would realize: do not sacrifice the here and now over worry about tomorrow.
I think someone I hold dear said something to that effect? You’re living more than you ever have, and I personally thank God He put you in my life and pray for you daily. We all love you, and we wanted you to know just how much you are appreciated on this special day.
